The monthly investor update is one of the highest-leverage actions a founder can take. A good update keeps your investors close and working for you: intros, hires, advice, and the next round.
We added an investor update skill to make the monthly update easier. The skill directs your LLM to raw material from the period, your Slack channels, email threads, and metrics, and drafts an update for you to review. What took two to three hours now becomes faster editing and story-shaping.
What it does
- Reads the sources you already have: connected Slack, Gmail, analytics MCP, or material you paste in. It does not connect on its own and doesn’t send automatically. You review and send.
- Writes in a proven format. Elad Gil’s two update formats, long for Series A or revenue-stage companies, short for seed, are chosen by stage.
- Puts the asks first. Every draft leads with what you need from investors because that is the part people read and act on.
- Does not make things up. Every number in the draft traces back to what you provided. No invented metrics or asks.
Where the format comes from
We did not invent the structure; we implemented a good one. Elad Gil wrote the definitive guide to investor update emails, and his advice is blunt: asks go at the top because “people might not read the rest in detail.” The skill follows his two formats, so you can use a proven structure.
Long format (Series A, revenue or user growth): Asks, key metrics with growth rates, team, product, partnerships, industry news, burn and runway, and others. Skip any section without updates.
Short format (seed or early): Asks, highlights, lowlights, milestones.
Why build it as a skill
Elad’s advice for maintaining discipline is to block off time on the calendar each month and reuse last month’s email as a template. The skill is that template, but it fills itself in from your actual week. You still own the judgment, the voice, and the send button.
