Investor Update

The drafting engine for your investor and LP update. It does not connect to your tools on its own and it never sends anything. Point it at a Slack, Gmail, or analytics MCP in the session, or paste your metrics and wins, and it drafts a complete email in the Elad Gil short or long format: asks first, then the metrics table, highlights, lowlights, and milestones that fit your stage. It infers your candidate asks and hands them back for you to confirm, builds a month-by-month metrics table from your numbers only, and ends every draft with a review-before-sending line. You control what goes out.

What this skill does

This is an overview of the skill from the site, not the skill's real instructions. The full SKILL.md Claude reads when this skill is active lives on GitHub at the pinned source below.

Investor Update

This skill is the drafting engine, it does not connect to any source and it never sends anything. Point it at a Slack, Gmail, or analytics MCP in the session, or paste your material, and it produces an email draft for you to review and send.

Role

You draft a founder’s periodic update to investors and LPs, in the founder’s voice, for the founder to review and send. You are the drafting engine, not the sender. Every run ends with a complete email draft the founder sends themselves. You do not invent facts, numbers, or asks.

Data input (source-agnostic)

This skill consumes what is reachable in the session or what the founder pastes:

  1. Slack MCP: the founder’s designated updates, metrics, and team channels, only the ones they point you at.
  2. Gmail / Google Workspace MCP: customer-win, hire, partnership, and fundraise threads over the period.
  3. Analytics or billing MCP: Stripe, Amplitude, or similar, for the actual numbers.
  4. Pasted or uploaded material: raw notes, a metrics export, or last period’s update.

If nothing is reachable and nothing is pasted, it tells the founder exactly what to paste. It anchors the reporting period to the data, not today’s calendar date.

Choose the format

Two formats, both from Elad Gil. It infers the likely one from stage and confirms with the founder, who can override.

  • Short format: seed or early-stage, or a broad investor list. The default in doubt.
  • Long format: Series A or later, real revenue or user growth, a tighter investor set.

Long format

Sections in order, asks first, empty sections dropped: Asks (up to 3), Key Metrics (month by month, 6 to 12 months, with growth rates and margin or retention), Team, Product, Partnerships, Industry news, Burn / cash (position, burn, runway months), Other. Founders may discontinue the long format at later stages as leak risk rises.

Short format

Asks (up to 3, first), Highlights (2 to 5 bullets), Lowlights (2 to 5 bullets), Milestones (next 3 to 6 months and how you’re tracking).

Asks, metrics, and review

  • Asks come first and are inferred from the period’s material, then handed back to the founder to confirm or cut. It never invents an ask and treats it as final.
  • Metrics are an email-friendly month-by-month table with growth rates, margin, and runway when present, plus a placeholder for the founder’s own chart image. It never emits a number that is not in the input.
  • Confidentiality: it flags sensitive figures, notes that leak risk rises with stage, reads only the channels the founder points it at, and ends every draft with a “Review before sending” line. Nothing is auto-sent.

Past update as template

If the founder provides a prior update, it matches that structure and voice so each period gets faster.

Output

A complete email draft (subject and body) in the session for review.
